Acceptable use policy
Last updated 19 October 2026.
Hookgap reads public information about domains and turns it into reports. This policy explains what you may use it for. It is part of our terms of service.
You may
- Check domains of businesses you serve or want to serve, and share the reports with them.
- Check your own domains, your clients' domains and, with a legitimate interest, your suppliers' domains.
- Use the free tools for troubleshooting and education.
You may not
- Present a report as proof that a business has been hacked, breached or is under attack, or use it to threaten or pressure anyone.
- Use reports or outreach copy in messages that break the email, marketing or privacy laws that apply to you, such as CAN-SPAM, GDPR or PECR.
- Harass a person or business, or keep contacting someone who has asked you to stop.
- Try to get around plan or rate limits, for example with many accounts or automated requests, or put unusual load on any domain through Hookgap.
- Use Hookgap to plan or support unauthorised access to any system.
- Resell raw Hookgap data or present Hookgap reports as another product without a paid plan that allows branding.
What we do about misuse
We may limit, suspend or close accounts that break this policy. If you think someone is misusing Hookgap, or our scanner is causing you a problem, write to hello@hookgap.com. Details of what our scanner requests are on the HookgapBot page.
